In 1907, Pyongyang received the title “Jerusalem of the East” as people united to repent and turn to the Lord for all nations. Since then, Korea endured the most contradicting division in history. As South Korea became one of the most passionate Christian nations with some of the world’s largest churches and mission organizations, North Korea became the #1 nation to persecute and kill Christians.
As the nation split in two, Koreans emigrated to other countries to escape war & poverty. “Diaspora” literally means “Jews living outside of Israel,” hence “Korean-Diaspora” refers to Koreans living outside of Korea. Currently, Koreans cover 170+ countries around the globe, and out of all Diasporas, Korean-American community is the most educated & wealthy.
Jerusalem of the East Prayer Project is a bridge-ministry that serves to “eagerly maintain the unity of the Spirit” [Eph 4:3] by gathering local churches and Christian organizations to remember the forgotten Jerusalem of the East. Just the way God scattered Jews, there is a purpose for Korean-Diasporas to serve the Lord in rebuilding Korea.
With the talk about unification right around the corner, it is time for believers to gather and pray the way our ancestors prayed in 1907. Jerusalem of the East Prayer Project invites all bodies of Christ to pray for Korea, not only for unification but for God's will to be done afterwards through a united Korea.
